HCCI urges Sindh govt to pay attention to industrial areaHCCI敦促信德省政府关注海得拉巴工业区的发展HYDERABAD: President Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) Adeel Ahmed Siddiqui has urged Sindh government to pay serious attention to Hyderabad’s industrial area which was confronting a host of issues that were hampering industrial growth. He appealed to government to ensure allotment of plots to industrialists for which they paid Rs25.5m to Site in advance 16 years back.
In a statement issued here Wednesday he said that over 400 industrial units exist in Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) but this area was hit serious issues and needed massive reforms. He said that Hyderabad’s site had been badly neglected at governmental level although it used to be a model industrial area in the past.
HCCI Chief said present infrastructure of site was inadequate to meet requirement of functioning industrial units. For instance, he said, water supplies lines were broken, forcing industrialists to turn to private tankers mafia to meet their water needs. He said industries were getting contaminated water and same was the case with drainage.

‘Water efficiency is a necessity’提高水资源利用率势在必行KARACHI: Agriculture is the largest consumer of freshwater in Pakistan, using over 90% of the resource, but mismanagement has led to almost 50% of water being wasted.
Pakistan can progress by leaps and bounds by adopting water resource management strategies from these progressive countries. The unavailability of sufficient usable water resources can lead to food security issues in an agriculture-based economy with a burgeoning population.
Iqbal emphasised that smarter technologies, like drip irrigation and sprinklers, can help the farming community, especially in Sindh and K-P, to make use of this precious resource judiciously. Digital solutions can also be introduced to monitor water usage, as in other countries, instead of using decades-old manual irrigation methods. Moreover, it is becoming evident that the over-usage of water for irrigation purposes not only makes the water table go down but also causes serious damage to soil health, affecting the productivity of the agriculture sector.

“We are allocating huge funds for green hydrogen production, and after the establishment of the hydrogen fund, other countries in the region will also join the race,” Muhammad Mahmood, Federal Secretary Petroleum Division, said at the MoU signing ceremony of the establishment of green hydrogen project here. He said that all the companies have allocated sufficient amount for the fund. Leading exploration and production (E&P) companies Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pak-Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL), and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore and pursue green hydrogen opportunities within and outside Pakistan. The collaboration aims to drive the energy transition towards a more sustainable future, leveraging each company’s expertise and resources.

UAE company eyes financial inclusion of SMEs in Pakistan阿联酋公司关注巴基斯坦中小企业的金融包容性ISLAMABAD: A delegation of a United Arab Emirates-based company InvoiceMate Wednesday visited the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to introduce their invoice management system on blockchain to promote financial inclusion of small and medium-sized enterprises in Pakistan.
Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, speaking at the occasion, welcomed the InvoiceMate delegation and assured them of full support in rolling out the blockchain-powered financial inclusion enabler system for SMEs in Pakistan. He lauded InvoiceMates efforts for revolutionising invoice financing by enabling the financial inclusion of SMEs and informal businesses.
He said that the financial inclusion of SMEs was very important to accelerate economic growth in Pakistan. He said that SMEs get only around 6% credit of the total private sector credit in Pakistan, which is less than 1% of GDP and is a major hurdle in their growth and urged the government to increase credit to SMEs to at least 20% that would boost business activities and put Pakistan on the path of sustainable growth.

Pakistan’s food security at stake: PKIPKI:巴基斯坦的粮食安全岌岌可危KARACHI: Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) President Khalid Mehmood Khokhar has warned that Pakistan’s food security could be at stake if agricultural production is not boosted and its issues remain unaddressed.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, he regretted that we’re importing low-quality wheat while having the potential to grow world’s best grain, adding that despite being an agrarian economy Pakistan has to spend billions of dollars annually on food imports, including those of wheat, sugar and vegetables, to bridge local shortfall.
In terms of agricultural success, he believes Pakistan is way more underdeveloped than the rest of the world and it must adopt a productive model being used by China, Australia and other countries to come on a par with global farming standards.
The PKI president emphasised that Pakistan must adopt modern agriculture technologies as was done by countries like India, Malaysia and Brazil to develop a sustainable source of food supplies.

China, Pakistan to strengthen cooperation in meteorological science & technology中国和巴基斯坦将加强在气象科技方面的合作Meteorological officers and experts from China and Pakistan held talks on deepening cooperation in meteorological science and technology in Beijing on March 24. Both sides reviewed the cooperation in the field of meteorological science and technology, and consulted on topics like early warning supporting system, operational capacity building, and training.
"Pakistan will continue to support CMA in international meteorological governance," Mahr Sahibzad Khan, Director General of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and permanent representative of Pakistan with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), pinpointed, adding that Pakistan was grateful for CMAs technical support when Pakistan was hit by severe floods last year.
Mahr Sahibzad Khan and the Pakistani delegation also visited relevant agencies under CMA to learn about the progress of the cloud-based early warning support system in Pakistan and discussed customized plans for Pakistan. “PMD and CMA will strengthen cooperation in monitoring, forecasting, hydrology and communication, and research & training," he said.
